BITTEN BY MAD DOG

Henry Lee Malicoat, 5 year old son of Mr. Lester Malicoat of Sand Gap, was biten by a dog Saturday and brought to Dr. Hughes here for treatment. The head of the dog was sent to Lexington for examination and found to be rabid. Pasteur treatment is being given by Dr. Hughes.

It is reported that the same dog possibly bit several other dogs at Sand Gap and a close guard should be kept to prevent other children from being bitten.

 

DEWEY GABBARD PROMOTED TO CHIEF ORDANCEMAN

Dewey Gabbard, son of Rev. and Mrs. Frank Gabbard, of Indian Creek has been promoted to Aviation Chief Ordanceman in the U.S. Marines Corps at Paris Island, S.C. according to announcement received by his parents.

This is one of the highest ranking office in the Marines and Mr. Gabbard can well fell proud of his son.

STEVE DALTON BUYS BUNDY'S RESTAURANT

Mr. Steve Dalton, Rural Highway Worker, closed a deal Wednesday whereby he becomes the owner of Bundy's Restaurant. He has taken charge.

 

Lt. H. Lester Reynolds

US Naval Reserve Engineering Corps.

Lt. Reynolds, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Reynolds of Tyner, Ky. who was Area Engineer with the Rural Electrifification Administration in Washington, DC, and St. Louis prior to his being commissioned as a Naval Officer, is now in active service on the Atlantic ocean.

Lt. Reynolds is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and is Chief Communications Officer in the U. S. Navy.

 

SEVEN PINES NEWS

Pfc. Homer Vaughn who has been spending a ten day furlough with his parents has returned to Georgia to again take his duties in the U. S. Army.

Miss Ollie Sams and children of Stanford are visiting her father Mr. Bob Sams.

Miss Opal Cunigan who is working in Dayton, Ohio spent the week end with home folks.

Miss Georgie Vaughn has gone to Dayton to stay with her brother Lee.

 

WHETSTONE NEWS

Mr. Howard Hundley who has been very sick for two weeks is improving.

Mr. P. V. Cole and two daughters of London was calling on Mr. Charley and Mr. Dooley Cole Thursday on business.

Mrs. Frank Roberts has been on the sick list the past week.

Miss Pearl Roberts who is employed at Mr. Charley Cole's visited homefolks over the week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Jake Wilds are visiting her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Williams for a few days.

Mr. Rollie Carpenter of Loam was dinner guest of Mr. Wiley Cole Friday.

Mr. Frank Isaacs left here Monday to seek employment.

Mr. and Mrs. Dooley Cole had as dinner guest Sunday Mrs. James Summers of Alton, Ind.

Mr. Loyd Baker of Dayton, Ohio visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Cloyd Baker over the week end.

 

ANNVILLE NEWS

Mr. Luther Davidson who is working in Dayton, Ohio spent the last week end at home with his family.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hignite and Mervin were visiting their parents over the week end.

Mr. Vernon Rice has been called to the Army.

Mr. G. W. Davidson has been home on account of illness.

Miss Zula Sexton, who is a Senior in Berea College, spent the week end with her mother.

Mrs. Opal Ison and son Billy are visiting her parents Dr. and Mrs. R. W. King.

Misses Jean and Helen Lear of McKee are visiting their grandparents this week.

 

SAND GAP NEWS

Pvt. Earl Morris who was stationed in Georgia is home on a five days furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Morris.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lainhart was in McKee Friday on business.

Mrs. Maggie Harrison visited her daughter Mrs. Sarah Click last week who has been sick.

Mr. Green Smith has returned home from Ohio.

Mrs. Alice Moran of McKee is visiting her sister Mrs. Taylor Hensley.

Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Purvis and children visited his sister Mrs. Della Pennington of Gray Hawk.

Pvt. Charles Hurst who was stationed in Georgia is home on a furlough with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Hurst.

 

ELIAS NEWS

Pvt. Kermit B. Wilson son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Wilson has arrived safely overseas.

Pvt. Herman McWhorter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McWhorter has arrived safely somewhere in England.

Miss Minnie Baker of this place was week end visitor at South Fork where she visited her uncle Rev. A. G. Bishop.

Granden Tincher has bought a cain mill and is urging everybody to grow cain this year.

RED CROSS SEWING ROOM TO OPEN IN MORRIS STORE ROOM

The store room in the Farris Morris Building at McKee, has been donated to the Red Cross for a sewing room. The materials are on hand and ready for the workers. All women who want to have a part in this patriotic work are asked to meet in the sewing room Friday, February 12 at 2 o'clock PM.

More sewing machines are needed. Anyone who has a machine available for this work will please see me at once...
